Windows (x86 and x64)

Always the latest versions of the Xvid codec for Windows including GUI frontends (Video for Windows (VfW) and DirectShow filters) packaged as a neat Windows installer can be found at:

Linux

Many different Linux distributions are available today with rather different features and characteristics. Xvid should run on all of them but binary packages are not maintained for all. Actually, it is rather easy to compile the Xvid source packages under Linux, therefore just few selected Linux distributions are covered here:

Xvid for SuSE Linux

Xvid for Debian

Notice

Xvid is open-source software published under the GNU GPL license. The Xvid project releases just source code packages (for developers). Source code distribution has the advantage that it is platform-independent and is suitable for many different operating systems and hardware architectures.

Making Xvid usable for a specific platform requires compiling the source codes for this platform and integrating the Xvid codec into a operating system dependent software framework. Xvid can be compiled for many platforms and luckily appropriate binary installer packages are maintained by third parties. A (very) incomplete list of links to binary installers for some popular platforms is provided below.
